SMS Short Code services : 

You might be seeing on television , some programs inviting viewers to SMS on some four digits short sms number like 7827 or 7886 or 7788 etc . 
A short code is a 4 digit number provided by Mobile Operators in each Circle on which data (SMS) can be sent by subscribers of the Mobile Operators. Short codes are provided to independent companies and all incoming SMS are forwarded to the servers of Service Providers.

The relationship of Service Provider for a short code is specific to a Mobile Operator. Thus, a Service Provider needs to tie up with all Mobile Operators for a specific short code for it to be able to provide a service across Mobile Operators.

There are two reasons for short codes to be so popular:
· They have high top of the mind recall (easy to remember) and
· A lot of advertisement (online/offline) goes behind making a short code popular

One outgoing SMS is provided with each incoming SMS without any charges. This SMS is generally a standard text SMS sent from our server and not from the client application. This is, therefore, a static reply and cannot be using information from client data-base. However, for special cases Mobilink can integrate client database with Mobilink server to provide dynamic outgoing SMS for each incoming SMS on a short code.

Short code can be used by advertising agencies, media companies, local radio stations, regional TV channels, marketing savvy companies, for campaigns, contests etc. It is a very good option for lead generation if backed by a campaign in print or electronic media. Advertising agencies prefer to use it as the response to their advertising campaign is measurable on parameters like numbers, time, effectiveness etc. Advertising agencies can also use the mobile phone data for sending other marketing messages, after taking an opt-in on SMS.
